I'd be writing no matter, but to get a nice bit of passive income has been a bonus. Since the start of 2012, I've made 1.82B ISK from EVE News 24. 240M ISK from EVE Tribune. And 490M ISK (a PLEX) from the Eebees. 2.55B ISK total.
It's all slowly drying up. EVE News doesn't syndicate much from me anymore, I think mainly because I don't do as many drama posts as I used too. (They would get big hits off my old EVE University rants.) And EVE Tribune is mainly interested in my newbie pieces, specifically The Theme Parker's Guide to EVE Online. And Eebee income is not something to expect ... there are too many good bloggers out there to compete with.
No real point in this post. Was curious how much I've made to date, and then figured maybe somebody else out there might be interested in some numbers.

Huh. I've never looked at it in those terms. I suppose if you look at the plexes' worth of subscription I don't pay as part of my media account, CCP has "paid" me (or credited me) 12 Billion, give or take.
ReplyDeleteMakes the amount I lose in ships seem fairly paltry.
What the heck is a media account?
DeleteA media account is a free EVE account from CCP for publishing an EVE-related site. They used to be MUCH more common than they are today. A couple of EVE bloggers still have them, I understand. I am not one of them. Not even entirely sure how one would get such a thing or what the requirements would be.
DeleteIf you find out, let me know. ;-)
I actually had my media account before I ever started playing EvE -- it's why I started playing, as it started out as a MMO Reporter "new guy starts playing EvE" series, and once that was done, I felt bad about having the account and not writing about EvE, so I just kept doing it.
DeleteWait, wait...hang on...
ReplyDeleteRiverini actually PAYS you??
Excuse me, I have an editor to call :P
I do have to remind him every month, but yeah, he does actually pay me. And usually with a small bonus if he's particularly late.
DeleteI wonder what my bonus will be after like 8 months of non-payment ;). Oh, and the first rule of media account is we don't talk about media account.
DeleteYou have one of these so-called media accounts too? What are these shenanigans?
DeleteYou don't know about media accounts? The only reason I haven't applied for one is that my blog isn't strictly about Eve. But since you don't have one you can proudly proclaim your independence!
DeleteHeh, that was my reaction to this post, "Riverini actually pays you?"
DeleteI got paid once after I bugged him for a while. He is still miles behind. But I see this is par for the course.
Huh, that's interesting. I wouldn't have guessed before that you were making ISK from the syndication of posts, but now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteObviously, you need to pile on some more drama, as EVE News 24 appears to be the milkiest cow of the bunch, by far.
As a fellow writer, I wouldn't consider writing passive income. It's a lot more work than playing EVE! ;) I wrote an article for EON and never did get paid the paltry amount of ISK they promised me. It's unfortunate that this seems to be the case in so many venues associated with EVE. As a professional, I don't work for free, and I don't consider a payment that isn't in the form of real money a payment at all. That's why these days I only write for my blog. My blog is for my own amusement, and I also do it to help the new players.
ReplyDeleteI call it a passive income, because I'd be writing no matter. That I receive some ISK for that writing is a bonus.
DeleteObviously, if you're specifically writing to pay for your account, then that writing is no longer passive.
