Mynnna's Cabinet

Test Alliance and Goonswarm have 22800 members between them. That's those two alliance alone. That doesn't include any of the alliances in their little coalitions, the HBC and CFC, respectively.

The HBC has approximately 22000 votes to marshal  The CFC another 30000 votes. 52000 between them. Only 60000 people voted during the CSM7 elections. Granted, all 52000 of those coalition members are not going to vote, but a majority of them will.

The problem with CSM elections isn't that nullsec candidates don't turn out. They, in fact, turn out in droves, if directed to do so by their leadership. The problem is everybody else. Given all the new election changes for CSM8, and assuming CCP does their usual to promote the election (essentially nothing), I predict the total voting numbers to fall for CSM8. Given all that, the CFC and the HBC have an opportunity to choose the 14 representatives for CSM8.

Goonswarm is far more organized than Test Alliance. Than any another other nullsec bloc. It should be safe to assume that Mynnna will gather the most votes. It should be safe to assume that Mynnna has enough respect in the general community, that the CSM will vote him chairman.

Mynnna should start looking at CSM8 as his, and he should start looking at the other 13 seats as his potential cabinet. The people he wants to work with. The people that will help make his term on the CSM successful. He should diplomance with the other large blocs, Test and N3, to get together a bloc of candidates they all can agree on, and that they'll all vote for. Each coalition will stick their own dude at the top of the ranked 14 member list, but the other 13 should be, more or less, identical.

If Goons, Test and N3 marshall 40-50K votes, then CSM8 becomes exactly what they want it to be.

What should Mynnna be looking for on the council? A wide variety of voices. People to fulfill specific roles. He should be looking now at some of the already announced candidates. He should be encouraging Test and N3 to announce capable candidates.

What might a Goonswarm ranked voting list look like?
Mynnna [Goonswarm candidate]
[Test Alliance candidate]
[N3 candidate]
Ripard Teg [Workhorse candidate]
[Wormhole candidate]
Unforgiven Storm [Industry candidate]
Marc Scaurus [Lowsec candidate]
Malcanis [Reasonable candidate]
James 315 [Risk/Reward candidate]
Roc Wieler [Communication candidate]
[Highsec/Non-Trebor candidate]
[UI candidate]
[Nullsec candidate]
[Nullsec candidate]
Their list won't look like that, but that's the general approach they should take. To look at everyone across the board, pull in as many smart voices and opinions as possible, and to take only people they know will put in time and effort. That, in the end, will make Mynnna look like a rockstar.

  1. I'm not going to effort-comment this, but STV doesn't work this way very easily, and the spoiler effect means you'll do more harm than good unless you have a very reasonable idea of the likely voters for your entire pick order, and the ones you DON'T want getting anywhere.

    You should research this.

    1. The massive overvotes would keep filtering down the list. And yeah, the last few people on the list would be harder to get onto the CSM than the first six or seven.

    2. "The massive overvotes would keep filtering down the list"

      That's not how it works.

    3. "Candidates don't need a majority of votes to be elected, just a known 'quota', or share of the votes, determined by the size of the electorate and the number of positions to be filled.

"Each voter gets one vote, which can transfer from their first-preference to their second-preference, so if your preferred candidate has no chance of being elected or has enough votes already, your vote is transferred to another candidate in accordance with your instructions. STV thus ensures that very few votes are wasted, unlike other systems, especially First Past the Post, where only a small number of votes actually contribute to the result."

  2. And do you thing a CSM completely under the control of the goons is a good and healthy thing for EVE? Because I sure as hell don't.

Don't Goons have enough "friends" in high places as it is already?

  4. I still don't know where this mynna person got all this street cred from. I like to think I'm reasonably informed and I'd literally never heard of this person before about 3 months ago. He might be a spreadsheet wizard, but he don't impress me much. Better than malcanus, maybe, but that's not saying alot.

Any credible candidate needs to point to posts they made during the summer of rage. That's when opinions mattered. Since then CCP has been in damage control mode and player input has hardly mattered at all. Which is why the next CSM will be selected by CCP based on how 'hard' they 'work', because of course if anybody is a good judge of hard work, it's CCP.

    1. Look for posts by corestwo. Mynnna is corestwo ... but in running for CSM, he decided to consolidate his identities, rather than confusing the voting public by having multiple posting identities.

  5. Even though I'm not Goonswarm's number 1 fan (Not that I have anything against them) if the list turns out how you predicted then I wouldn't be that disappointed. It seems to me like a "benevolent dictator" situation. Granted I only read about nullsec politics, I'm not really affected by them

  6. I doubt Goonswarm will be able to significantly improve on the vote count from last time, so they've probably only got 10 000 votes again (if that, because I imagine some non-Goons voted for mittens too). So that's only 2 seats influence rather than a full 14. (Assuming they go for a second Goon candidate or someone else unpopular) If they have a list of people like yours though the influence good be spread a lot further.
